Nagpur: The Nuisance Detection Squad (NDS) of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has initiated stricter action against those who litter, throw garbage, spit, use plastic bags less than 50 microns in public places. On Wednesday, the NDS registered 242 cases and recovered a fine of Rs 1.23 lakh.
In order to keep the city clean, punitive action has been initiated against the citizens who throw garbage, spit, pollute, litter, use plastic bags and shopkeepers on the streets and pavements. The Nuisance Detection Squad personnel registered 20 cases and collected a fine of Rs 4000. All were fined Rs 400 each. A fine of Rs 1000 has been collected and 1 case has been registered against those who defecate in public places such as roads, footpaths, open spaces, etc. 83 cases were registered against handcarts, stalls, pantheles, hawkers, small vegetable vendors for unsanitary conditions (Rs. 400 fine each) and recovered Rs.33,000.
Similarly, Rs 4,600 was recovered by registering 46 cases against persons throwing garbage in public places like road, footpath, open spaces (Rs. 100 fine each). A fine of Rs.7600 was collected under 19 cases under which the shopkeepers threw garbage in public places (Rs. 400 fine each).
A fine of Rs.2000 was recovered and 1 case was registered under dispensaries, hospitals, pathlabs etc. for littering on roads, footpaths, open spaces (Rs. 2000 fine). A fine of Rs 4,000 was collected in 2 cases under which malls, restaurants, lodgings, boarding hotels, cinema halls, wedding halls, caterers service providers etc. for littering on roads, footpaths, open spaces (Rs. 2000 fine). A fine of Rs 5000 was recovered under 1 case of trespassing by constructing a pavilion, arch, stage etc. or for personal work (proceeding as per municipal policy) on road. A fine of Rs 40,000 was collected in 1 case of dumping of biomedical waste by medical practitioners in general waste. Apart from this, cases were registered against 56 other persons and a fine of Rs.11,200 was recovered. Also a fine of Rs 11,000 was recovered from the organizations in 11 cases.
