Nagpur: A police constable attached to Bhandara police was arrested on Monday for allegedly stealing his senior Assistant Sub-Inspector Sunil Sayyam’s official revolver and 35 live cartridges to threaten money lenders from whom he had borrowed, said a report in a local English daily.
The accused Nilesh Khadse and Sayyam were deployed at the district court’s ‘muddemal’ room for security. Sayyam had a .38mm revolver and also a 9mm pistol issued in his name. Though Khadse was on leave on Saturday, he visited the court ‘muddemal’ room when Sayyam had gone to the bathroom and fled with the ASI’s firearms and cartridges. When Sayyam noticed his firearms missing, he informed his seniors and lodged a complaint.
The report further said that when the cops started screening CCTV footage of the court premises, they stumbled upon Khadse’s presence there. During sustained interrogation, Khadse admitted to stealing the weapons.
Bhandara police have registered offences of theft against Khadse and also recovered the firearms and the cartridges.
