On The Occasion Of Martyrdom Day Monday 28th November 2022
Shri Guru Teg Bahadur is the ninth Guru of Sikh Panth. Guruji was born at Amritsar on 5th day of Vaishakh Vadi 5 Samvat 1678 i.e. 1st April 1621. His father’s name is Guru Hargovind Saheb the Sixth Guru of Sikh Panth, and mother’s name Mata Nanki.
A Great Social Reformer:
Guruji purchased five miles of land at village “Murba Makhowal” situated 6 miles away from Kiratpur for value of Rupees One lac fifty seven thousand from its owner Raja Dilip Chand, father of Raja Bhim Chand. Guruji built houses for poor and needy and established Anandpur City, which is famous and amongst the five “Takhta” blessed by Shri Guru Nanak Devji. In Vikram Samwat 1721, when Anandpur city was well established, Guruji started for eastern side and on the way travelled through many “Tirth Sthals” and told people the correct way of Naam Simran and blessed the devotees. Guruji explained them that Simran consists of three ingredients, one by physical presence, second our heart/mind should also do Simran and not think any other thing at the time of Simran and third by singing the most important ingredient and if not sung makes a man value less “Gun Gobind Gaiyo Nahi Janam Akartath Keen” because who sing in praise of God get the Almighty’s help “Jiha Nar Jasu Kirpa Nidhi Gaiyo Taako Bhaiya Sahai”(help) (Shri Guru Granth Sahib Page No. 1008).
On the way Guruji donated “Anna and Dhanna” to the needy and poors. From Ropad Guruji reached to Mulowal village. There Bhai Maiya and Bhai Gonda bowed before Guruji and sat with respect. Guruji ordered them to bring drinking water. Bhai Gonda replied that the water is salty and well is of no use for villagers and hence village people throw Kachra in it. If Gurdev directs we may bring water from the well, quite at a distant place, which cause great inconvenience to the villagers. Guruji ordered Bhai Gonda and Bhai Maiya to clean that well and bring water from it. Bhai Maiya and Gonda cleaned that well and brought water. Bhai Maiya and Gonda were surprised to see that the brought water was as sweet as should be and thus Guruji saved the villagers from inconvenience of bringing drinking water from quite a distant place. Guruji further ordered that here after this well of sweet drinking water will be named as “Guru Ka Kuan” and in addition to this well nine more wells will come into being, totaling to ten and if any one digs the eleventh it will stand dismantled.
As uttered by Gurdev there are only ten wells in the village, till date no eleventh well has come into being. When people of the village came to know that the salty water of the well is now drinkable sweet water and they are saved from the great inconvenience by the blessings of Guruji, they came with Shradha, Bheta and respect for Darshan of Guruji. Guruji preached them to do Jaap of Satnaam, do Sat Vyavhar, help the needy and poor.
There after Guruji visited Kaithal, Pahowa, Barna, Karankheda. At Kurukshetra Guruji stayed near the place where Guru Nanak Devji, Guru Hargobind (Sixth Guru of Sikh Panth), Guru Harrai Saheb (Seventh Guru of Sikh Path) had stayed. There after Guruji went to Banapur where a villager apprised Gurdev of grave water problem. Guruji gave him “Badra” i.e a bag of “Ashrafis” and directed the villagers to dig the wells, construct a beautiful Dharamshala where Hari kirtan/simran be done and this village became famous by the name of “Bani Badarpur”. Guruji then visited Manakpur and made Malikdas Vaishnav as his param Bhakta. Guruji then went to Delhi, Mathura, Vrindavan and Agra where Guruji stayed at the house of devotee Maai Jassi. This place is now famous and known as Gurudwara “Maai Than”.
It may be mentioned here that saints, Avtars, and Maha Purushas in addition to giving religious discourse have also helped their Bhaktas at the time of need/difficulties/sorrows. At that time Hindus were being tortured by the Governor of Kashmir Sher Afgan and as per the policy of Aurangzeb were made to embrace Islamism by force. On approach Guruji asked Hindu Pandits of Kashmir to tell Governor, Sher Afgan that their spiritual head is the ninth Guru Teg Bahadur and if he accepts Islamism, they all will automatically embrace the same.
Guruji was forced to accept Islamism, but Guruji refused. Even after being subjected to heavy tortures, Guruji did not embrace Islam. He was ultimately martyred on 11th December 1675 (Saka Maghar Sudi 5 Samvat 1732). The equivalent English date of which is Monday, 28th November 2022.
Even now the Bhaktas can get rid of financial stringencies by chanting “Wahugur Teg Bahadur” as stated by Shri Guru Gobind Singh “Teg Bahadur Simariye Ghar Nav Nidh Ave Dhai” Path of Shri Japuji Sahib is however compulsory.
Lakhs salutes to such a Great Martyr on his Martyr Day.
