PM Modi to inaugurate Samruddhi Mahamarg, Nagpur Metro on Dec 11: Report

Nagpur: Finally, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting Nagpur and will inaugurate the ambitious Nagpur-Mumbai Samruddhi Mahamarg and the First Phase of Nagpur Metro on December 11, according to media reports.

The inauguration of Samruddhi Mahamarg and Nagpur Metro’s Reach 4 (Central Avenue) has been on hold since the past many days. According to sources and reports, the programme will be held at two different places. The first programme will be held at Airport Metro Station. The Prime Minister will dedicate the two routes of Metro Phase 1. From there, he will depart for Samruddhi Mahamarg. At Waiphal Toll Post, Modi will inaugurate the First Phase of Samruddhi Mahamarg. Preparations for the programmes are in full swing. However, details of both programmes have not been announced as yet. But the visit of the Prime Minister is certain, according to reports.

Out of the 520-km first phase of Samruddhi Mahamarg, the 491-km stretch between Nagpur and Shirdi is ready for vehicular traffic. The 210 km stretch between Nagpur and Shelu Bazar has been completed. Similarly, a 281-km stretch between Malegaon and Shirdi is also ready.

The 700-km-long Expressway between Nagpur-Mumbai has a total of eight wildlife overpasses and 22 wildlife underpasses. The expressway passes via Bor Tiger Reserve and several other environmentally sensitive zones.

The MSRDC has set the speed limit of 120-kmph for the access-controlled Expressway which will bring travel time between Mumbai and Nagpur to 8-10 hours from the existing 16-18 hours. The entire stretch between Mumbai and Nagpur will have 26 toll booths and MSRDC has proposed a toll of Rs 1,212 as one-way for light motor vehicles like cars and jeeps.

The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) is giving final touches to Nagpur-Mumbai Samruddhi Mahamarg as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to open the Expressway on December 11. Preparations are going on for the commissioning of the expressway between Nagpur-Shirdi, according to a report in a local daily.
