Mumbai cops arrest Nagpur man for making hoax bomb call

Nagpur: A team of Mumbai Police arrested a Nagpur man for making a hoax bomb call. The man allegedly told the Mumbai Police Control Room officer about three bomb blasts in Mumbai city, police said.

The accused was identified as Ashwin Bharat Mhaiskar (29), a resident of Digdoh, Hingna road. A police official said that the South Control Room of Mumbai Police received a call from the mobile number 7066794191 on February 24 at around 1.35 pm. Woman Police Sub-Inspector (WPSI) Rupali Kadam received the phone call. The caller allegedly said that 90 kg of Mephedrone (MD) and a large quantity of explosives have been unloaded in Mumbai. He further said that bomb blasts would be carried out at J J Hospital, Bhendi Bazar and Nal Bazar area.

When Kadam asked his name, he switched off his mobile. Kadam immediately informed Senior Police Inspector Dange and other police officers. PI Borate of Sir J J Marg Police Station was also informed. The security system was alerted. The police cordoned off the area. However, no bomb-like object was found, the official said.

The police conducted a technical investigation and identified the caller. The mobile number was registered in the name of Mhaiskar. The police traced the location of the mobile. It was found to be at Dahanu in Palghar district. Mumbai Police contacted Dahanu Police. Dahanu Police arrested Mhaiskar. During interrogation, it came to light that he had made a hoax call to police. Mumbai Police has registered a case and started investigation.
