Nagpur: For the first time in Maharashtra, body cams would be used to rein in speeding on highways. The Regional Transport Office, Nagpur (Rural), has purchased two units and they would be used on Samruddhi Expressway.
The aim of the move is to curb mishaps on high speed roadways. The flying squads and other teams deployed on Samruddhi would be equipped with the cameras. With use of body cameras, the RTO teams would be able to examine the vehicle and also consult drivers about road safety rules and norms and create awareness among them to drive safely and observe speed limits.
The body cameras would record any violation of speed and the data can then be used to book the errant drivers and help in curbing mishaps. Vijay Chavan, RTO, Nagpur (Rural), has appealed to people using the Samruddhi Mahamarg to take note of body cameras in use and follow traffic rules.
