NMC dedicates ‘Smart Toilet’ in Budhwar Bazaar area

Nagpur: Taking one more step in making Nagpur a Smart City, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has converted a toilet in Budhwar Bazaar area of Sakkardara into a smart toilet.

This ‘smart toilet’ of Budhwar Bazaar under Hanuman Nagar Zone was inaugurated by Additional Commissioner Ram Joshi. On this occasion, Assistant Commissioner of Hanuman Nagar Zone Ashok Patil, Executive Engineer (Slum) Kamlesh Chavan, Head of Nagpur@2025 initiative Shivkumar Rao, Devendra Bhote and others were present.

For the convenience of citizens, a ‘smart toilet’ equipped with many facilities like air-conditioned spinning room for lactating mothers, wheel chair for disabled, sanitary pad vending machine for women, sanitary pad incinerator, hand dryer have been started. This toilet has sensor based smart entry door which does not need to be opened or closed manually.

One sanitary pad can be redeemed by inserting a coin of Rs 5 in the sanitary pad vending machine installed at the smart toilet. A sanitary pad incinerator has also been installed here for disposal of used pads. Hand dryers, wash basins have been arranged for women. The men’s toilet has four toilets, one commode and one simple toilet and bathroom. Separate commode toilet has been arranged for the disabled. There is a wheel chair facility at the toilet for the disabled.

Along with cleanliness, saplings have also been planted at the entrance to beautify the entire area. Use of toilet is free in this smart toilet in Budhwar Bazaar area of Sakkardara and a charge of Rs 7 for using toilet, Rs 20 for cold water bath and Rs 30 for hot water bath is fixed. For proper maintenance of the smart toilet, a room has been prepared by the NMC for the maintenance staff in the upper part of the toilet.

A total of four smart toilets are being built in Nagpur city. Out of these, the toilets of Gokulpeth and Budhwar Bazaar have been opened for the convenience of the citizens, while the work of smart toilets is in progress in Sugatnagar and Kalmana.

An amount of Rs 1.5 crore has been spent for these four toilets. For the construction of more smart toilets in Nagpur city, the Municipal Corporation has sent the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of seven smart toilets to the government.
