Investigation revealed that the accused have been running the racket for the past few years, charging Rs 10 to Rs 12 lakh from each candidate against their appointment in the KCB. According to reports, the accused were instructing the interested candidates to fill up only their name, roll number, post applied for, and other details in the Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) sheet, leaving the entire answer part blank. The KCB officials involved in the racket would then fill out the OMR sheets and disqualify other candidates during skill tests or interviews.

The accused were also found directing the candidates to hand over the ‘Pen’ used during the test to the suspect officials so that it can be utilised for filling the left blank OMR sheets. The recruitment scam was first brought to the notice of the CBI after arresting a KCB sanitation worker and a candidate who had appeared for the post of Mali (gardener). The sanitation worker contacted the candidate and assured him of his selection.

The candidate paid an amount of Rs 50,000 initially to the sanitation worker and discussed with him about the remaining payment and agreed to pay Rs 11.50 lakh. The CBI laid a trap and caught the sanitation worker while accepting the bribe of Rs 2 lakh as the first instalment out of the total bribe of Rs 11,50,000 on behalf of former-Vice-President of KCB, and other officials of KCB. The accused, Chandrashekhar Krishnaji Lanjewar has surrendered to the CBI.

Already arrested accused Deep Ramesh Saktel, sanitation worker of KCB; Chandrashekhar Kuwarlal Chidhalore, candidate (selected for the post of Mali) and the Nursery teacher were produced before the court by CBI, on Friday, and obtained extension to the police custody till Monday.

According to reports, an ex top rank official of Kamptee Cantonment Board (KCB) was the mastermind of the recruitment scam. He is now posted in Delhi and trying hard to shield himself from the CBI. The CBI official collected evidence against him. He would be in the CBI custody soon.
