Nagpur: Additional Sessions Judge Ganesh Deshmukh on Friday awarded life imprisonment to Pramod Patiram Dhonge after the charges of killing his own mother were substantiated against him in the court.
According to the prosecution, Pramod Dhonge (30), a resident of Ambala, taluka Ramtek, was addicted to alcohol. He used to stay with his mother Kamlabai Dhonge. His father Patiram had been missing for the past 15 years. Later, the family came to know that he died. His elder brother was working in the house keeping department of a Nagpur-based hotel. Pramod often used to trouble his mother Kamlabai under the influence of liquor.
On February 21, 2019, Pramod, who was already in an inebriated condition, demanded money from Kamlabai to enjoy liquor. When she refused, he picked up a quarrel with her. After heated exchanges, he picked up an axe and attacked Kamlabai, killing her on the spot. He then tried to destroy the evidence by washing the blood stained axe.
Following a complaint lodged by Sachin Laxmikant Sangeetrai (27), a resident of Ambala, Ramtek Police arrested Pramod on charges under Sections 302 and 201 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on the same day.
PSI Raju Mrutyupod investigated the case and filed a chargesheet against the accused. During the trial, the court examined as many as 13 witnesses. As the charges under Section 302 of the IPC were proved against Pramod, the court sentenced him to life imprisonment with a fine of Rs 5000. Additional Public Prosecutor Kranti Neware represented the State.
