Patel was admitted to New Era Hospital on April 21, when he suddenly felt dizzy and collapsed. A team of doctors treated him here for four days but his condition deteriorated. Doctors declared him brain dead on April 25 night. Organ donation process was conducted later on.

ZTCC Secretary Dr Rahul Saxena led the liver transplant team while Dr S N Acharya led the kidney retrieval and transplant team. The entire process was conducted at one hospital without any need of green corridor or transport.

According to ZTCC, New Era Hospital has been leading organ donation and transplant in Nagpur for a long time now and patients on waiting lists are attached with this hospital. Hospital staff created the honour corridor for the donor and provided free ambulance service.
