Mentally challenged boy killed in freak mishap in Kalamna

Nagpur: In a freak accident, a mentally challenged boy was killed when his neck got entangled in a steel chain while playing at his house in Adivasi Prakash Nagar under Kalamna Police Station limits.

The deceased Neerajkumar Radheshyam Bantela, the 15-year-old boy studying in Class VII at a mentally challenged boys’ residential school in Chhattisgarh, had come to Nagpur to spend his school holiday with his family. According to police, Neeraj’s parents and grandmother are labourers, and his elder sister studies in the Class X.

On Saturday, his parents and grandmother had gone to work, while his sister had gone to school. Neeraj was left alone in the house, playing in his room on the first floor. While playing, a steel chain that was tied to a ceiling raft got stuck around his neck, and Neeraj lost his life. When his sister returned home, she discovered Neeraj’s lifeless body. She screamed for help. Her grandmother rushed to see, and then neighbours gathered. Someone informed the police control room.

As soon as the police received the information, a team led by Head Constable Naresh Revatkar rushed to the scene. They conducted a panchnama and sent the body to the Mayo Hospital for autopsy. Kalmana police have registered a case of accidental death and started their investigation into the incident.
