Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurates police apartments in Nagpur

criticizes slow progress of construction by MSPHC

Nagpur: The Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis on Friday inaugurated police apartments in Nagpur while also criticising the Maharashtra State Police Housing & Welfare Corporation Ltd (MSPHC) for the slow pace of construction of police quarters across the state.

The event was attended by Union Minister for Road Transport Nitin Gadkari, MLAs Krishna Khopde, Mohan Mate, Vikas Kumbhare, Tekchand Savarkar; MLC Pravin Datke, DGP Rajnish Seth, DG (Housing) Sandip Bishnoi, Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, IGP (Nagpur Range) Chering Dorje, DIG (Gadchiroli Range) Sandip Patil, and others.

During the programme Fadnavis expressed his disappointment with the MSPHC, stating that it would take three generations to complete the project if the current speed of MSPHC continues.

Addressing the meeting, Fadnavis also directed Director General (Police Housing), Sandip Bishnoi, to identify officials in his department who are causing hurdles in the project. Fadnavis had allocated Rs 2,000 crore for police housing after taking charge as CM in 2014 and promised there would be no shortage of funds for the police.

During the same, Fadnavis inaugurated 348 police residential quarters, the new building of Lakadganj police station and office of DCP Zone III, and 52 residential quarters at Kamptee.

In addition to addressing the issue of police housing, Fadnavis announced the finalisation of land for the development of a logistic park spread over 1,000 acres and a mega tourism development project at Ambhora that will receive a Rs 300 crore allocation from the state.

Union Minister for Road Transport Nitin Gadkari also applauded the Nagpur police for reducing the crime rate in the city by 35 percent. He urged the police commissioner to focus on reducing the number of road accidents and fatalities in the city.

The meeting concluded with the announcement that around 67,000 youngsters are currently employed at MIHAN, and this number is expected to increase to one lakh in the next two years.
