Nagpur: A Nagpur-Pune IndiGo flight (63135) had to be cancelled after a bird collided with the plane here at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport on Monday. The incident left passengers inconvenienced as the flight had to be immediately cancelled and rescheduled.
According to sources, the bird collided with the aircraft, causing damage and raising concerns over flight safety. As a precautionary measure, the airline decided to cancel the flight to ensure the safety of the passengers and crew members.
Passengers who were scheduled to travel on the affected flight expressed disappointment and frustration due to the sudden cancellation and subsequent rescheduling of their travel plans. Many had to make alternative arrangements or wait for the next available flight.
This incident highlights a recurring issue at Nagpur Airport, where encounters between animals and birds with aircraft have been reported in the past too. The airport authorities and airlines have been working diligently to mitigate such risks and ensure the safety of passengers and aircraft operations.
Bird strikes pose a significant challenge to aviation safety, as they can cause damage to the aircraft’s exterior, including the engine, wings, and windshield. In response to such incidents, airports and airlines employ various measures to minimize the risk, including habitat management, bird repellent systems, and regular inspections of the airfield.
