Nagpur: The central government has taken a step to control the tomato prices. The central government will now purchase tomatoes. The price of tomatoes has reached up to Rs. 200 in many parts of the country. Due to the increased price of onions, tomatoes have disappeared from people’s meals. It has been reported that the central government will buy tomatoes from Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh through NAFED (National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation).
The purchased tomatoes will be sold in markets in Delhi, Kolkata, Kanpur, and Patna. This has given rise to the possibility of further price increases in Maharashtra. The delay in the arrival of monsoon has resulted in an increase in tomato prices.
Maharashtra has experienced heavy rainfall during the monsoon season. As a result, many farmers’ crops and rabbi crops have been damaged. There has been unseasonal rainfall in the months of April and May, causing significant losses to various crops. Banana plantations have been completely destroyed. Along with that, all crops have suffered losses due to the rabbi season.
Monsoon rainfall entered the country in the first week of June. However, this time the monsoon arrived late by a month, resulting in more rainfall on agricultural land. Due to the absence of vegetable cultivation, the price of vegetables has increased in the market. It is expected that the price of vegetables will decrease in the coming days.
