Nagpur receives 149 mm rainfall in 24 hours, many areas flooded

Nagpur: Residents of low-lying areas woke up to flooded streets, underbridges and houses after heavy rain lashed Nagpur in the wee ho

urs of Thursday. The heavy downpour and waterlogging led to traffic disruptions in parts of the city.

The roughly an-hour heavy downpour from midnight to 1am inundated many parts of the city.

In the last 24 hours, Nagpur city received 149.3 mm of rainfall followed by Nagpur rural 139.4 mm, Kamptee 103.8 mm, Hingna 192.9 mm, Ramtek 7.5 mm, Parseoni, 51.2 mm, Mauda 43.9 mm, Katol 15.7 mm, Narkhed 3.2 mm, Saoner 7.7 mm, Kalmeshwar: 13.3 mm, Umred: 115.0 mm, Bhiwapur: 46.5 mm and Kuhi 94.7 mm.

No loss of life or house collapse incidents were reported, said fire officials.

“The streets were waterlogged and rainwater entered many houses in north, east, south and west Nagpur,” officials from Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s fire and emergency services department said.

Due to heavy rainfall in Nagpur city (Airport 164 mm, Pardi 179.7 mm, Sitabuldi 177.4 mm) many parts of the city got inundated and waterlogged. In some areas water entered the houses. Affected areas include Wardhman Nagar, Shanti Nagar, Pardi, Bharatwada, Shiv Shambhu Nagar, Manish Nagar, Narendra Nagar, Surya Nagar, H.B. Town etc

In Hingna, 13 persons including 3 children were rescued by SDRF from Hanuman Nagar, Hingna. They got stranded as water from the Vena River and local nullah surrounded their houses. Around 50 to 60 huts are encircled by water in village Kirmiti Bharkas.

One person named Prakash Barwe (42), resident of Shivkrupa Nagar Besa, drowned in Besa nullah. Search operation is going on.

The number of household damages is 13 including 1 partially damaged in Nagpur Rural Taluka, 7 partially damaged in Bhiwapur, 5 partially damaged in Umred.

The water capacity of Totladoh surged to 81%, Navegaon Khairi: 74 %, Wadgaon: 75% (7 gates are opened by 25 cm with discharge of 150 cumecs), Nand: 65 %, Chaurai (Chhindwara, MP): 77 % (2 gates are opened by 0.3 m, discharge – 94 cumecs).

The Weather Department has issued an Orange Alert for July with intense and heavy to very heavy rainfall possibility at some parts of Nagpur district.
