Nagpur: Chess prodigy of Nagpur Vedika Vijay Pal recently won the gold medal in the Asian Youth Chess championship at Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Union Minister for Road Transport Nitin Gadkari congratulated the young chess player and wished her luck for the future.
Vedika’s father Vijay and mother Dr Mamta were also present along with social worker Panju Totwani during the felicitation programme. During the Asian meet players from 10 countries participated. Vedika remained undefeated and scored 8.5 out of nine rounds. Vedika started as the top seed with an Elo rating of 1456 and posted a performance rating of 1643 throughout the tournament.
Earlier also she has won gold medal in Asian School Chess Championship for India in December 2022 in Sri Lanka and several national as well as State medals. Vedika had won two gold and one silver medals for India in rapid category. Vedika will be playing in the Maharashtra Under-11 Open and Girls FIDE Rating Chess Tournament at Pune which begins from July 28.
