Nagpur: In a perplexing development concerning the ongoing murder investigation of Sana Khan, her younger brother Mohsin Khan (27) has reportedly declined to acknowledge the identity of the body found, believed to be that of his sister. The incident adds a new layer of complexity to the already mysterious case.
Nagpur police took Mohsin Khan, Sana Khan’s younger brother, to the location to identify the body. Upon arriving at the scene, Mohsin Khan expressed his refusal to confirm the body as that of his sister. Contrary to the police’s suspicions, he asserted that the body did not belong to Sana Khan. A significant factor in Mohsin’s refusal was the apparent age difference between the deceased body and his sister. The body found is that of a young girl estimated to be between 22 and 23 years old, which conflicts with Sana Khan’s age of 40.
Furthermore, Mohsin Khan highlighted a distinctive piece of jewellery found on the body that further raised doubts about its identity. The body was adorned with a bracelet that is commonly worn by Adivasis indigenous to the region. This observation has cast doubts on the possibility that the body could belong to Sana Khan, as her cultural background and preferences would likely not align with wearing such jewellery.
It may be recalled that the investigators have found a woman’s body resembling Sana in a well located approximately 300 kilometers from Jabalpur. The body bears a resemblance to Sana Khan, raising questions about the accuracy of the information provided by the prime accused, Amit Pappu Sahu, and his accomplice Ramesh Singh who had stated that after murdering the 34-year-old functionary of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Minority Cell from Awasthi Nagar, they had tossed the body in the river.
The police are waiting for the confirmation through the DNA sample match of the body with Sana’s mother. Sana Khan went missing on August 2 after a confrontation with her partner-turned-foe, Pappu Sahu, a resident of Jabalpur. The relationship between the two had reportedly soured, with Pappu suspecting Sana’s fidelity. The situation escalated on August 1 during a video call between Sana and Amit. Following the altercation, Sana travelled to Jabalpur on August 2 and entered Pappu’s residence, where a violent confrontation ensued resulting in her murder.
Pappu Sahu and Ramesh Singh, who were subsequently apprehended by the police, confessed to have murdered Sana Khan. They claimed to have disposed of her body by throwing it into the Hiran river, which they believed would eventually flow into the Narmada river. A massive search operation involving the State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF) was launched in both rivers based on Pappu’s statement to police.
However, the recent discovery of a woman’s body in a well situated in the Harda district has added another twist to the case. The body, resembling that of Sana Khan was found with threads tied to the head and leg, a similarity to Khan’s features. The police, led by DCP Zone III Rahul Madne, are now trying to confirm the identity of the deceased. A police official said that recovery of a dead body is a vital ingredient of a murder case as without the recovery of the actual body, confirming murder charges remain uncertain.
