Nagpur: Sadar police have registered a case of molestation against the General Manager of Manganese Ore (India) Limited on the complaint of a 42-year-old Assistant General Manager (Personnel) of the state-owned company.
The accused has been identified as Trilochan Das, a resident of Arya Nagar, Koradi. He works as General Manager (Personnel).
According to police, Das allegedly outraged the modesty of the female official during office hours. He was also sending objectionable messages to her, police said.
The AGM has recently filed an FIR against the GM for stalking her and seeking sexual favours since he joined the MOIL head office at Chhaoni in Nagpur in 2016. The 59-year-old GM is set to superannuate in January next year.
The woman has accused the GM of touching her inappropriately on May 4, though she had resisted his advances over the course of seven years. The mother of two said she was frightened following the incident but her family’s support helped her overcome the trauma and take legal action against the senior officer.
After the alleged incident inside the GM’s cabin on May 4, she had filed a complaint with the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Committee on June 15. The matter is still pending.
Sadar police have registered offences under Sections 354-A, 354-D and 506. The accused GM has produced documents showing the complainant is facing departmental inquiries, and the complaint has been filed due to anger. We are investigating the case.
According to a media report, the accused GM called it a ‘motivated conspiracy’. “I am retiring in four months. My promotion is due. I am investigating a case of Rs1.5 crore misappropriation against high level officers. The charges are false and fabricated. They want to put pressure using the woman. I have given my statement to the police,” he said.
He added that the woman got ‘good’ rating in her annual confidential report. “She was insisting on ‘excellent’ rating and clean chit in previous vigilance cases against her,” said the GM.
Countering the charges, the woman shared WhatsApp chats allegedly sent to her by the GM. “In the beginning he would pass lewd comments regarding my skin, hair, figure and dressing style. He would tell me that I look good in western clothing. While discussing official work he messaged ‘I……U’ on WhatsApp. When I confronted him, he offered an apology,” she said.
“Between 2016 and 2018, the GM joined as senior Deputy GM. I was living alone since my husband was posted outstation. The GM would ask me to accompany him for dinner or request to come over to my house,” she said.
The woman had complained to her department head, who asked her to ignore the overtures. Later, the GM started heading another section but kept including her name in assignments to ensure she remained in front of him. “As I continued to resist him, he started filing complaints against me,” she said.
