Nagpur: The Cyber Police of Nagpur have successfully apprehended a group of fraudsters from Rajasthan for making a bogus Facebook account in the name of Commissioner of Police (CP) Amitesh Kumar and defrauding a Nagpur man of Rs 24,000.
The complaint was filed by Vinod Mahadeorao Kadu, residing near Mahesh Travels in Giripeth in the city. Vinod received a Facebook friend request from an account of ‘Amitesh Kumar’, which later initiated a conversation through Facebook Messenger. The person behind the Facebook account proceeded to impersonate a CRPF officer named Santosh Kumar and offered to sell household appliances like a refrigerator, washing machine, and air conditioner at a significantly reduced price.
Vinod, unaware of the scam, agreed to purchase the goods for Rs 24,000. He then transferred the amount. However, the purchased items were never delivered to Vinod, and the fraudsters disappeared. Subsequently, Vinod filed a complaint, leading to the registration of a case under Sections 419, 420, 465, 467, 468, 470, 471, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code as well as Sections 66(C) and 66 (D) of IT Act.
Identifying the culprits, the police swiftly raided houses of the accused in Alwar district of Rajasthan and arrested them. An amount totalling Rs 1.23 lakh was frozen, and four mobile devices, along with a bearer cheques associated with the fraudulent bank account, were seized.
The accused have been identified as Surendra Pritam Singh (28), Taufik Khan Fateh Nasib Khan (25), Sampatram Shribansilal Prajapati (33), all residents of Kushal Baas, Tehsil – Mundawar, District – Alwar, Rajasthan.
