Nagpur: Kapil Nagar Police have apprehended three notorious thieves involved in thefts of e-rickshaw batteries and recovered 71 stolen batteries from their possession.
The accused have been identified as Sameer Javed Ali (20), Govind Kashiram Sakhare (21), and Akash Vijay Pali (23), all residents of Nari in Kapil Nagar. The accused are history-sheeters with many offenses registered against them.
According to police, the arrest comes in the wake of a spurt in battery thefts, primarily targeting e-Rickshaws kept in a godown belonging to a local company. Each e-Rickshaw typically houses two batteries. The accused trio meticulously stole batteries from 23 e-Rickshaws from the godown. Their modus operandi involved targeting two to three e-Rickshaws daily. Later, they also stole batteries of e-Rickshaws parked in Uppalwadi, Govindgarh, and Samta Nagar areas.
Upon intense interrogation, the accused attempted to mislead the police. However, the efforts of the Police Force eventually led to a breakthrough. The thieves confessed to their involvement in the battery thefts that resulted in recovery of 71 stolen batteries of e-Rickshaws.
The accused were produced before the court, where the police obtained their three-day police custody remand. Under the guidance of ACP Santosh Khandekar, the arrest was made by Senior Police Inspector Ashok Koli and his staff.
