Nagpur: In a historic moment at Nagpur Railway Station, the long-awaited app-based cab service was officially inaugurated on Wednesday. The ribbon-cutting ceremony, symbolizing a new era of convenience for passengers, was conducted by a passenger duo, Milind Mirapure (32) and his mother-in-law, Chanda Wamankar (55). The honour was bestowed upon them by the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Nagpur Division, Tushar Kant Pandey.

The launch comes in response to a sustained campaign by local media advocating for the introduction of a cab aggregator service to ease the burden on passengers, particularly those compelled to traverse long distances with cumbersome luggage to access transportation.

Milind Mirapure and Chanda Wamankar, the inaugural beneficiaries of the service, were provided with a complimentary ride to the MP bus stand as a gesture of goodwill following the inauguration.

While the rollout of the service is largely symbolic due to an ongoing strike by a significant number of drivers protesting against a proposed hit-and-run Central law, a noteworthy presence of drivers at the aggregator booth indicates a willingness to resume services once the strike concludes.

The app-based cab service, conveniently located near the escalator outside Platform No. 1, had previously faced operational challenges leading to its suspension within months of its initial launch. Despite the issuance of a tender for the resumption of service in November of the preceding year, the Railways encountered opposition from pre-paid auto drivers.

DRM Tushar Kant Pandey, accompanied by Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Ashutosh Shrivastava, Railway Protection Force Senior Divisional Security Commissioner, and SP of Government Railway Police Akshay Shinde, expressed optimism about the improved transport options now available for passengers arriving in Nagpur. The re-launch of the cab service signifies a collaborative effort to address longstanding issues and enhance the overall travel experience for railway commuters.

With the promise of increased accessibility and convenience, the app-based cab service at Nagpur Railway Station marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to enhance passenger satisfaction and streamline transportation options.

Cab service a big leap in passenger facilities:

The Nagpur Division of Central Railway has launched an app-based cab service at the Nagpur railway station. This long-pending demand from railway passengers has been fulfilled by the commercial department. Passengers can book and board cabs from a designated place on the west side of the station premises. The service is a citizen-centric initiative and signifies a big transformation in passenger services.
