Nagpur: Dr Milind Barhate of Nagpur has become Vice-Chancellor of Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University. Chancellor Ramesh Bais has appointed him to this coveted post. Dr Milind Barhate is presently working as Principal of CP and Berar College, Mahal in Nagpur.
He became Principal of the college in 2010. Dr Barhate is an M Com, MBA, LLB and PhD. He has worked as Chancellor nominee on Management Council during the tenure of Dr SP Kane who was Vice Chancellor of Nagpur University from the year 2016 to 2022. Dr Barhate is the 9th Vice Chancellor of Amravati University.
The earlier Vice Chancellors include late Dr K G Deshmukh, Dr Ganesh Patil, late Dr S T Deshmukh, Dr Sudhir Patil, Dr Kamal Singh (Nagpur), Dr Mohan Khedkar (Nagpur), Dr Murlidhar Chandekar (Nagpur), and late Dr Dilip Malkhede.
The post became vacant after the death of Dr Dilip Malkhede in January, 2023. Dr Pramod Yeole again from Nagpur who was Vice Chancellor of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad took the additional charge of Amravati University After the end of his tenure on December 31, 2023, Dr Vijay Maheshwari, Vice Chancellor of North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon was given the charge of Vice Chancellor at Amravati.
Dr Barhate has the experience of working on various bodies in the university. His father late Dr Arvind Barhate played a key role in steering the then Nagpur University to the right path after the marksheet scam of 1999. Dr Arvind Barhate ably supported Dr Arun Satputale, who took charge of Vice Chancellor post-marksheet scam and Nagpur University, earned prestigious four star from National Accreditation and Assessment Council.
