The order banned photography and videography of the RSS HQ premises, citing a potential threat to it

Nagpur: The Nagpur police have intensified measures to safeguard vital installations against potential drone attacks and have declared the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s (RSS) Headquarters in Nagpur’s Mahal area as a ‘no-drone’ zone and banned photography and videography of the premises till March 28, citing a potential threat to it.

In an order issued on January 28 under Section 144 (1) (3) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), Joint Commissioner of Police Aswathi Dorje said the RSS HQ is located in a densely populated area surrounded by hotels, lodges and coaching classes. Due to this, individuals passing through the vicinity could take pictures and videos or employ drone videography, posing a potential threat to the headquarters, the order said.

The RSS headquarter has been a target for terrorists over an extended period. On June 1, 2006, three Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists were neutralised by police personnel while attempting to infiltrate the building. Since then, a large number of armed police personnel have been stationed to ensure the security of the headquarters. Simultaneously, the police are vigilant regarding intelligence indicating that Naxals may be utilising small drones for surveillance of security forces near the Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh borders.
