3 women labourers crushed to death as SUV overturns near Nagpur

Nagpur: In a ghastly mishap, three women labourers were crushed to death and 13 others were injured, seven of them seriously, after a speeding Tata Sumo SUV they were travelling in overturned near village Sirsi on Bela-Umred Road near Nagpur Thursday evening.

Identified as Ratnamala Meshram (45), Indira Mahajan (45) and Rasika Bagde (46), the deceased were the residents of Maher, Taluka Brahmapuri, district Chandrapur. Thirteen injured women and the driver of the Tata Sumo SUV (MH-33/A-1947) were rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Nagpur.

Preliminary investigation revealed that all the accident victims were labourers. All of them were from Chandrapur district. They were being taken to the construction site by a contractor. The Tata Sumo was carrying the labourers beyond its capacity. The driver lost control of his speeding vehicle near Sirsi village and the vehicle overturned killing three women on the spot and injuring 13 others.

Staff from Bela Police Station rushed to the spot and started the investigation. The injured were shifted to GMCH Nagpur.
