The arrested accused have been identified as Amul Prakash Tong (40) a resident of New Sneh Nagar, and Prateek Jairam Nikhade (35), a resident of Asmit Apartment, Bajaj Nagar.

According to police, the swindlers operated a sports equipment and furniture sales office and shop in Padole Nagar area under Rana Pratap Nagar police station limits. In 2021, the doctor from Dimapur approached Tong and Nikhade expressing his intention of opening a game zone and purchase materials for it. A deal was struck between the doctor and the fraudsters and a payment of Rs 55 lakh was made.

However, after receiving the money, the duo failed to deliver the promised materials. Despite the doctor’s attempts to contact them, Tong and Nikhade assured him that the materials would be sent in a few days, but the promised supplies never materialised. Frustrated with the lack of response, the doctor filed a complaint with the Dimapur police which led to the registration of a fraud case.

A police team from Nagaland reached Nagpur on Saturday and sought assistance from the Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone-I Anurag Jain. Instructions were given to Sonegaon police to aid in the arrest of the accused. Following their arrest, both Tong and Nikhade were produced in court, and upon obtaining the production warrant, the Police departed for Nagaland with the accused.
