Nagpur: In a coordinated effort, Tehsil Police and the Food & Drugs Administration (FDA) conducted a raid on a godown located at Bengalipanja, resulting in the seizure of a significant quantity of substandard areca nuts. Sources revealed that the proprietor of the godown is identified as Vinish, also known as Vineet Subramanyam. The confiscated substandard betel nuts were intended for distribution to paan kiosk owners and grocery stores, according to the sources.
The consignment of areca nuts originated from Kerala and was suspected to be of inferior quality. Acting on a tip-off, FDA officials collaborated with Tehsil police, and together they conducted the raid on the establishment situated in the Gandhibagh wholesale market. The sudden crackdown on the areca trader caused unease in the market, as the seized stock was believed to be substantial.
The joint team of FDA and Tehsil police were engaged in scrutinizing the documents provided by the consignee as part of their investigation.
