In a first in India, First Aid training centre set up in Govt Polytechnic Nagpur

Nagpur: The Mining and Mine Surveying Department of Government Polytechnic (GP) Nagpur in collaboration with National Institute of First Aid & Industrial Safety, Nagpur, has set up a First Aid Training Centre in its premises. This training centre will award a certificate after the students undergo the eleven days training course. This training certificate is an important criterion required by diploma as well as degree holders for jobs in mining industry as per the norms notified by DGMS.

Dr Kaushik Sarkar, DGMS (Occupational Health), Western Region, Nagpur was the chief guest for the function and inaugurated the centre. Dr. Shraddha Ghanorkar, Dr. Rahul Gholse, Shreekant Kashyap, Office bearers of National Institute of First Aid & Industrial Safety Nagpur, Dr Manoj Daigavane, Principal & Joint Director, Regional Office DTE and Prof B J Naidu, HOD Mining & Mine surveying department were prominently present.

Dr. Shraddha Ghanorkar welcomed the guests and HOD of Mining Prof B J Naidu elaborated upon the objectives behind setting up the training centre. Chief guest Dr Kaushik Sarkar applauded the efforts taken by the team to provide the certification at the doorstep of the students. He also mentioned during her speech that First aid training is required for people of all walks of life and the training can prove useful for many patients during the golden hour of treatment.

He also mentioned that out of total 38 DGMS recognised first aid training centres, GP Nagpur is first polytechnic institute in India who is having such facility that every pass out students will have valid First-Aid certificate along with their mining diploma.

Dr. Shraddha Ghanorkar and Dr. Rahul Gholse urged the students to look beyond the academic certification part of the course and use the knowledge in their day-to-day life. First aid training can be crucial in not only mines but in simple household situations and can be life saver in most cases too.

Dr Manoj Daigavane emphasized the importance of industry institute interaction and that a proper coordination between the two will make students job ready thus providing competent work force to the industry. He appreciated the HOD and team of Mining & Mine Surveying Department for the unique step taken to provide the students an important certification for their professional growth.

Dr. Shraddha Ghanorkar & Shreekant Kashyap, National Institute of First Aid & Industrial Safety, Nagpur, mentioned the consistent efforts put in by HOD Prof B J Naidu and Prof D V Surkar in setting up and making this centre operational.
