Nagpur: A recklessly driven truck crushed a morning walker to death in Imambada area in the early hours of Tuesday. The trucker, who sped away after the ghastly mishap, was later arrested by Imambada Police.
The deceased, Arvind Baburao Pantawane (66) was a resident of House No 377, Siraspeth, near Anand Boudh Vihar. Around 4.40 am, Pantawane was on a morning walk on Reshimbag Road. Near Anand Boudh Vihar, an Ashok Layland truck (MH-49/BZ-1078) hit him from behind. Pantawane came under its wheel and was crushed to death. The trucker fled the spot. Some passers-by took Pantawane to Government Medical College & Hospital where the doctors declared him ‘brought dead’ on admission.
Later, police nabbed the truck driver, Shaikh Sadiq Mujib Shaikh (19), a resident of Plot No 163, Sharda Layout, Kharbi Road, and registered a case under Sections 279, 304(A) of the Indian Penal Code, read with Sections 184, 177 of the Motor Vehicle Act, against him. Further investigations are underway.
