Nagpur/Mumbai: A 25-km stretch of Samruddhi Mahamarg between Bharvir and Igatpuri town will be opened most likely on March 4, according to the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC).
The 25-km stretch of the Expressway is a combination of a flyover, bridges, VOB, a twin tunnel of 300 metres each and a crossing of old Mumbai-Nashik Highway, making it one of the most complex parts of the expressway, as per the MSRDC.
Previously, the 25-km stretch was slated to be opened by mid-February but as minor works remained, the revised deadline is now March 4.
The Samruddhi Mahamarg, spanning 701 km linking Nagpur to Mumbai, of which 600-km Expressway from Nagpur to Bharvir in Igatpuri is currently open to traffic. This stretch was inaugurated in two phases. The 520-km stretch between Nagpur and Shirdi was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in December 2022 and the one between Shirdi and Bharvir was inaugurated by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in May 2023.
The 25-kilometer segment of the expressway includes a mix of features such as a flyover, bridges, VOB (Vertical Shaft Brick), twin tunnels measuring 300 meters each, and an intersection with the old Mumbai-Nashik Highway. This particular section is recognised as one of the most intricate parts of the expressway. Notably, the construction of the VOB presented challenges due to the continuous traffic flow on the six-lane road beneath the bridge.
The 701 km Nagpur-Mumbai Samruddhi Highway is a super expressway to reduce travel time between the two major cities.
