Nagpur: The Chief Spokesperson of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), Atul Londhe, has lodged a formal complaint with the Election Commission of India, accusing BJP State President Chandrashekar Bawankule of violating the model code of conduct.
In a letter addressed to the Election Commission, Londhe raised concerns over Bawankule’s alleged dissemination of false and misleading information regarding the honorable Supreme Court’s updates on the case involving Navneet Rana, a recent member of the BJP.
According to Londhe’s complaint, on March 28, 2024, Bawankule purportedly made claims suggesting that the Supreme Court had issued a favorable order and judgment in support of Navneet Rana following her joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on the same day.
Londhe asserts that such deliberate spreading of misinformation is a blatant attempt to sway voters and constitutes a violation of the model code of conduct. He further contends that Mr. Bawankule’s actions may also contravene provisions of the Indian Penal Code and amount to contempt of court.
Accompanying the letter are a video recording and a link to Bawankule’s statement for the Election Commission’s reference. Additionally, Londhe has enclosed the latest case status and orders from the Honorable Supreme Court of India regarding Navneet Rana’s case. These documents purportedly indicate that the matter is “Reserved for Judgment,” contradicting Bawankule’s assertions.
Londhe emphasizes that Bawankule’s alleged dissemination of false information intentionally misled citizens and voters, potentially influencing their perceptions. As Chief Spokesperson of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee, Londhe underscores his duty to safeguard the integrity of the democratic process.
