Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation, district administration, and the SVEEP team jointly organised the marathon, ‘Run for Distinction’, on Monday to promote voter awareness. The marathon featured 10km, 5km, and 2km fun run categories. The event saw significant participation from voters, students, and individuals from both public and private sectors.
Notably, veteran runners also joined in to emphasize the importance of voting.
The marathon started from the historic Sitabuldi Fort for the 10km and 5km category, while the 2km fun run was flagged off from Kasturchand Park.
The winners from different categories included Riya Dhotre, Mitali Bhoyar, Chaitali Borkar, Rita Tarare, Renu Sidhu, Saurabh Tiwari, Rajan Yadav, Rohit Patle, Sunny Fusade, Om Atram, Bhagyashree Mohale, Tripti Patil, Tanmay Pimpalkar, Sneha Joshi, Anjali Madavi, Bhavesh Khandar, Gaurav Khodatkar, Kunal Wagh, Pranay Mahurle, Nagesh Katkhaye, Arya Takone and Doma Chafale, all of whom were awarded trophies.
The run was organised to increase voter turnout during the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Earlier, the races were flagged off by District Collector and District Election Officer Dr Vipin Itankar. District SVEEP Nodal Officer and Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Soumya Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Police Archit Chandak, Gorakhnath Bhamre, Harveer, Railways Officer Kashinath Patil, Rajeev Gaikwad, Deputy Commissioner Ranjana Lade, Milind Meshram, Prakash Warade, Assistant Commissioner Mahesh Dhamecha, Harish Raut, Ganesh Rathore, Narendra Bawankar, Health Officer Dr Deepak Selokar, Additional Health Officer Dr Vijay Joshi, Dr Govardhan Navkhare, Shilpa Jichkar, NMC Sports Officer Dr Piyush Ambulkar, District Sports Officer Pallavi Dhatrak, Sukeshani Telgote, Municipality Nuisance Detection Search squad Chief Veersen Tambe, Gurudas Raut, Jayant Duble and others were present along with citizens, government officers, employees and college students.
