Pedestrian knocked dead on Katol Road

Nagpur: A 61-year old pedestrian woman, Lilabai Siddheshwar Somwanshi, lost her life while crossing the road to get a water bottle. The incident occurred on Katol Road in the Gittikhadan Police Station

area. Lilabai, a resident of Maa Bamleshwari Nagar, Piwali River, Yashodhara Nagar, had attended a wedding at Marakwade Lawns on Sunday night. As she was returning home, she stopped to quench her thirst and crossed the road to get a water bottle around 10.30 pm.

Tragically, a speeding vehicle approached from the opposite direction and struck Lilabai. She sustained grave injuries. Passers-by rushed her to the hospital, but despite efforts, doctors declared her dead.
The police have registered a case under Sections 279 and 304 (a) of the Indian Penal Code, in conjunction with Sections 134 and 177 of the Motor Vehicle Act.
