Nilkrishna Gajare, a native of Belkhed, a small village near Akola in the Washim district, has emerged as the topper of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE-Mains) season 2, securing a perfect 100 percentile. His remarkable achievement has earned him the prestigious All India Rank 1. Meanwhile, Dakshesh Mishra from Navi Mumbai clinched the second position with an equally impressive performance, securing AIR 2.
Hailing from a family of farmers, Nilkrishna Gajare shared his aspirations, expressing his dream to pursue a Bachelor of Technology (BTech) degree in computer science at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay. “My parents discovered a coaching class offering scholarships for JEE examinations,” said Gajare, who earned admission to Allen through their talent hunt examination, receiving a substantial 75% scholarship.

The JEE-Mains saw a total of fifty-six candidates, including seven from Maharashtra, achieving the coveted 100 percentile score. In cases where multiple candidates secure the same National Testing Agency (NTA) scores, a meticulous tie-breaking method is employed. The NTA evaluates scores in mathematics, followed by physics, and then chemistry to determine rankings. Should the tie persist, candidates are ranked based on the proportion of attempted incorrect to correct answers across all subjects, with precedence given to mathematics, physics, and then chemistry. If parity still remains, factors such as the candidate’s age and application number are utilized for ranking purposes.
