Leopard’s day out in Nagpur locality, makes calf a victim!?

Nagpur: A leopard has come back to haunt Nagpurians and this time it has ventured into the residential area near Gorewada International Zoo. In Zingabai Takli area of West Nagpur, a leopard is suspected to have killed a calf on Wednesday night.

The incident, as per the reports, occurred around 10 pm in Sawant Society. A youth in the locality witnessed the leopard in action. The news about spotting a leopard and its attack on a calf triggered panic in the area. Though locals got in on the act and tried to search for the leopard, it managed to make a good escape after the kill. Though the youth claimed to have seen the leopard, the locals are still not sure as to the entry and exit of the leopard.

When the citizens made loud noise, the leopard fled the scene abandoning the dead calf, said a local resident. The spot is about 500 metres away from the high tension tower line on Zingabai Takli road. The Gorewada Zoo area is located just half a kilometre away.

In the past also a leopard was sighted in the nearby residential localities surrounding the zoo. Also camera traps showed a leopard on the compound wall of the zoo in the past. Local police officials were alerted and they in turn apprised the Forest Department about the matter.
