Nagpur: A fire broke out in a godown situated in a house near Mahatma Gandhi School, Barakholi, Jaripatka, Nagpur in the wee hours of Tuesday, May 21. The NMC’s Fire Brigade doused the fire and rescued nine persons including four women, four men and a child from the third floor of the house.
The Sugat Nagar Fire Station received a call around 1.35 am that a fire broke out at the godown situated in a house at Block No. 33, near Mahatma Gandhi School, Barakholi, Jaripatka. Acting swiftly, three fire tenders were despatched to the spot at 1.40 am and doused the fire. During the firefighting operation, the Fire Brigade personnel rescued nine persons including four women, four men and a child from the third floor of the house and brought them to safety. The house belonged to Laxmandas Chandwani and the godown is owned by Gangaram Ramchandra Chandwani.
The preliminary probe pointed out a short circuit as the cause of the fire. The exact reason would be ascertained after a thorough probe.
According to the godown owner, the fire caused a loss of Rs 90,000 as a stock of five electric meters, paper plates, plastic disposers, paper napkins, pattal-drone was destroyed.
A case has been registered at Jaripatka Police Station and further probe is underway.
