Nagpur: Divyanshu Gautam, a final-year Computer Science Engineering (CSE) student at Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology Nagpur (VNIT), reportedly committed suicide by hanging at the college’s boys’ hostel, the police said on Thursday.
According to police sources, some students complained about a bad odor emanating from Gautam’s room. Gautam had also not been seen for the last couple of days. Sensing something amiss, students informed the college administration. Subsequently, college staff gained entry by breaking the latch of the door and found Gautam lying on the floor.

Cops suspect that Gautam had ended his life a few days earlier by hanging, and due to the weight, the clothes used tore apart, causing him to fall to the floor.
A case of accidental death has been registered, and further investigation is ongoing.
