Government should announce Public Private Partnerships in training and Skill Development sector to create a pool of skilled employable man power: Dr Dipen Agrawal President CAMIT

Dr Dipen Agrawal, President of Chamber of Associations of Maharashtra Industry & Trade (CAMIT) called upon Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State (Independent Charge) (MoS I/c) in Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship; and Minister of State (MoS) in Ministry of Education.

The MoS gave a patient hearing to the problems and suggestions made by CAMIT regarding Skill Development. Dr Dipen Agrawal explaining that there is deficit of trained/skilled personnel in the industry, which can be overcome by Establishment of Skill Development Centres, Industrial Partnerships, imparting proper vocational training to the youth, as 90% of youth in the age bracket of 15-29 are employed in skilled jobs but they are not adequately trained, Supporting Startups and Entrepreneurs, Sustainable funding, Standardization in Placement, As such different schemes, are implemented by different State & Central Ministries, the mode of Placement verification varies. This aspect can be standardized and uniformly implemented across all Skill Development schemes irrespective of which Ministry is funding the scheme, increasing the seating capacity of the existing ITI’s as well as opening new residential institutes in tier II and tier III cities. Dr Agrawal suggested private players can be of great help, like Collaborating with local industries to ensure the training programs are aligned with market demands, thus increasing employability and increasing the quality of training and create state-of-art institutes. Area specific training course be designed to cater the local industry like for Vidarbha region it should be for power generation, cement, steel, cotton processing and solvent extraction, likewise for Marathwada region it can be sugar industry and so on, he added. Conducting extensive outreach programs to create awareness about the available training opportunities and benefits.

Dr Dipen further submitted that Skill development is not limited to development of a particular skill in a person, but also addressing the need of local industry by creating pool of skilled and trained workforce employable by these industry, as we already have the highest In-Migrant population in the Country.

MoS, Jayant Choudhary appreciating the submissions, assured the suggestions will be considered with the use of National Council of Skill Development, National Skill Development Coordination Board, can bring about a significant and positive change in the National Policy on Skill Development after departmental study.
