Nagpur: In a dramatic series of events on Wednesday, June 26, three juveniles escaped from the Government Shelter Home for juveniles in conflict with the law at Patankar Chowk. Their brief period of freedom saw them steal a moped and commit a robbery before being swiftly apprehended by the Nagpur Crime Branch.
According to police reports, the escape occurred between 1:30 pm and 1:50 pm. The juveniles requested water from the shelter home staff and used the opportunity to slip into the kitchen. There, they broke the back door and made their escape.
Their first stop was Dhantoli, where they spotted and stole an Activa moped parked near Dhantoli Garden. The owner, Yogita Sudhakar Kashikar (37) of Ajni Railway Quarters, reported her vehicle (MH/31/BR/2899) missing shortly after.
Riding their stolen vehicle, the trio then targeted Priya Hemant Ghume (34) from Warora, Chandrapur, who was on her way to the hospital with her daughter. Near Baidyanath Square and Medical Square, they snatched her handbag, which contained Rs 1,000 in cash and two mobile phones valued at Rs 18,000.
Meanwhile, shelter home authorities had alerted the Police Control Room. Using intelligence and tips from informants, the Crime Branch’s Unit 3 quickly tracked down the three escapees. Cops have also seized a stolen Activa along with a knife and cash Rs 760 from the three juveniles.
They were detained and handed over to the Kapil Nagar Police for further action.
