Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) recently claimed to have cleared 90% of the water hyacinth from Ambazari Lake. However, a video by Nagpur Today has revealed a significant discrepancy in these claims.
According to the NMC, 90% of the water hyacinth infestation in Ambazari Lake was removed in a recent cleaning drive. However, a video from Nagpur Today shows a large portion of Ambazari Lake still covered with water hyacinth, contradicting the NMC’s claims.
The footage reveals that extensive areas of the lake remain clogged with the invasive plant, indicating that much more work is needed to achieve the claimed level of cleanliness.
Water hyacinth is known to deplete oxygen levels in water bodies, adversely affecting aquatic life and water quality. The discrepancy between the NMC’s claims and the visual evidence may impact public trust in the Corporation’s environmental management efforts.
It is essential for the NMC to address these inconsistencies and provide transparent updates on their cleaning operations. Additional efforts will be necessary to achieve a significant reduction in water hyacinth coverage.
The Nagpur Today video has brought to light the ongoing challenges in managing water hyacinth at Ambazari Lake. Despite the NMC’s claims of significant progress, the current state of the lake underscores the need for continued and enhanced efforts to effectively tackle the infestation.
