Nagpur: Citizens of Nagpur are grappling with severe traffic congestion. The problem has escalated to such an extent that even the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court has been affected.
During a hearing, the High Court noted that Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Shashikant Satav,was not taking the issue seriously. The court, in the presence of the Police Commissioner, orally directed Satav, to submit an affidavit addressing the traffic issues. If not complied with, the court warned of recommending his transfer.

The hearing, presided over by Justices Nitin Sambre and Abhay Mantri, was held in connection with a public interest litigation on the Ambazari flood case. On Thursday, the issue of traffic congestion due to development works was raised. The court expressed its displeasure, stating, “Traffic jams are occurring at every intersection in the city. We have observed citizens struggling with congestion even near the High Court square. This clearly shows that the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) is not serious about regulating traffic.”
The High Court’s dissatisfaction was not limited to this case alone. In two or three other instances, Satav’s traffic management was also deemed inadequate. The court took these issues seriously and orally instructed Satav to appear with the Police Commissioner at the next hearing to provide an explanation.
