Nagpur: Kishore Parate, a 32-year-old resident of Dongeghat in Khapa, Nagpur district, was among the three individuals killed in a landslide near Gaurikund on the way to the Kedarnath pilgrimage on Sunday morning. The incident also left nine others injured, three of them seriously.
Landslides are common in the mountains during the monsoon season, posing additional risks to pilgrims who already face slippery trails and heavy rains. Parate was one of two individuals from Maharashtra who lost their lives in the landslide, the other being 24-year-old Sunil Kale from Jalna. Parate and two friends had departed from Nagpur for Kedarnath on July 15.
According to sources, the landslide occurred near Chirvasa, approximately three kilometers from Gaurikund, just as the pilgrims began their trek towards the Kedarnath shrine.
