Nagpur: Two new flyovers, each with a project cost of Rs 73 crore, are set to significantly ease traffic congestion and related issues on Inner Ring Road in South Nagpur. The groundbreaking ceremony for these flyovers will be conducted by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari as the chief guest, on Saturday, August 3, in the evening.
The flyovers will be constructed by the World Bank division of the State Public Works Department (PWD) with a completion deadline of 24 months. The first flyover will be built over Manewada Square, a location frequently plagued by traffic congestion and accidents. The second flyover will be constructed over Mhalgi Nagar Square.

According to a report, work orders for both flyovers have been issued, and construction will commence shortly. Currently, zero technical investigation is ongoing, and the pile foundation work is set to begin soon. The government granted administrative approval of Rs 73.14 crore for the Manewada Square flyover in 2023, with technical approval for Rs 51.32 crore. The work order for the project, amounting to Rs 46.75 crore, has been awarded to a Nagpur company.
Similarly, the Mhalgi Nagar flyover received administrative approval of Rs 73.14 crore, and its work order has also been issued.
PWD officials have stated that both Manewada and Mhalgi Nagar squares suffer from traffic jams and other related issues. The construction of these flyovers is expected to alleviate traffic congestion, reduce accidents caused by heavy vehicles, and save commuters’ time.
