Nagpur: The Nagpur West MLA Vikas Thakre said that the condition of repaired roads after asphalting, concreting and digging is deteriorating in the city. These roads should last for 3-5 years or more. But they are becoming bad within a few months of the construction. Frequent repairing is leading to financial load on public money and serious inconvenience to citizens.

Thakre, who is also Nagpur District (City) Congress Committee President, demanded that Nagpur Municipal Corporation, Nagpur Improvement Trust, PWD, National Highways Authority of India and Maha Metro should conduct an audit of all the roads. A road was asphalted in March and the rest of the work is in progress. DLP (defect liability period) of asphalted roads is about three years. The road was supposed to last more than 3 years of DLP, Thakre said.

“Same is the case with cement concrete roads. Despite the DLP period being more than five years, cracks, pits, cracked surface layer, settlement of paver blocks etc. are common sight within a few months after concreting,” Thakre added.

“The condition of the roads repaired after digging is very bad and accidents are happening. It is all due to the rivalry between engineers and contractors. In the last 10 years, no contractor has been blacklisted by these government agencies for reasons known to them. The condition of roads across Nagpur is very bad during the current monsoon,” Thakre lamented.
