Nagpur: The Ambazari Police have booked three individuals from Andhra Pradesh, including a young woman, for submitting a bogus marksheet to Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) officials as part of the marksheet verification process for a position abroad. The incident came to light when Dr. Praful Sable, Director of the Board of Examinations and Valuation at RTMNU, identified the fraudulent documents and lodged a complaint with the Ambazari Police.

Cops have arrested one person in this connection. The accused have been identified as Kancharla Roshan Rao, Ramankumar Sitaramulu Bangaru (40), and Ratanbabu Aanandrao Mekatoti (40), all residents of Guntur, Andhra Pradesh. The scam was uncovered on Thursday afternoon when Ramankumar and Ratanbabu visited the Examination and Result Section at the Laxminarayan Institute of Technology (LITU) premises in Nagpur, claiming to be close relatives of Kancharla Roshan Rao.

According to police sources, the two men presented eight marksheets covering four academic years (2012-2016) of an engineering program, along with a degree certificate and a consolidated transcript, for verification. The name on the documents was that of Kancharla Roshan Rao. Dr. Sable, who attended to them, immediately recognized the marksheets as fake. He pointed out that RTMNU does not issue consolidated transcripts, further raising suspicion about the documents.

To confirm his doubts, Dr. Sable cross-checked the documents with the university’s Tabulation Register and Marksheet Records. As expected, there was no evidence of any marksheets under the name Kancharla Roshan Rao. Additionally, the documents bore stamps from a foreign embassy, indicating that Roshan Rao had already secured a job abroad.

Adding to the suspicious nature of the case, when the accused brought the girl to interact with Dr. Sable on call, however, she was unable to recall the name of the college from which she supposedly earned her engineering degree.

Recognizing the gravity of the situation, Dr. Sable promptly informed Dr. Sanjay Dudhe, Pro Vice Chancellor, and Dr. Prashant Bokare, Vice Chancellor of RTMNU. Meanwhile, Mekatoti requested to leave the premises, only to abscond. University officials managed to detain Bangaru and handed him over to the police.

Following Dr. Sable’s complaint, an FIR was registered under Section 318(4), 336(2), 338, 336(3), 340(2), 339, 3(5) of BNS, and a manhunt has been launched to apprehend the remaining accused.

This incident follows a similar case from last year, where RTMNU had received inquiries from the Iraqi embassy about 27 students who had submitted fake RTMNU marksheets to secure jobs in Iraq. Upon investigation, it was revealed that these students had never attended the colleges listed on their documents. All the fake marksheets from that incident, like the current case, bore the signatures of former Vice Chancellor Dr. Vilas Sapkal and Controller of Examinations Dr. S. P. Kane, indicating a possible connection to a larger forgery racket.
