Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s (NMC) Encroachment Department has launched a major crackdown across the city. On Monday, August 12, an illegal construction in Jaripatka was demolished.
Under the jurisdiction of the Mangalwari Zone, an illegal construction by Dr. Rohit Baldev Asrani, a resident of Block No. 336/A, Shrirangi Maharaj Road, Jaripatka, Nagpur, was identified. A notice was issued to him under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966, on June 21, 2024. Since no action was taken on the notice, the Encroachment Department, under the instructions of NMC Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Abhijit Chaudhary and with the cooperation of the Police Department, proceeded with the demolition.

Additional Commissioner Ajay Charathankar was personally present during the operation, which was marked by significant tension. The operation was conducted with the support of approximately 100 police personnel. During the demolition, parts of the walls on the ground floor, first floor, second floor, third floor, and fourth floor, all constructed illegally, were taken down. Dr. Rohit Asrani was given two days to comply with further actions, and an affidavit was taken from him.
Anti-encroachment actions in various zones:
* Gandhibagh Zone No. 06 and Satranjipura Zone No. 07: Encroachment removal was carried out from the zone office to Nanga Putla Chowk, Tanga Stand, Shaheed Chowk, and up to the Old Bhandara Road. Illegal stalls and shops set up on the road and footpaths on both sides of the street were removed.
* Gandhibagh Zone No. 06: Encroachment removal was conducted from the zone office to Badkas Chowk, Mahal Chowk, Lakda Pul area, Chitar Oli Chowk, and back to Mahal Chowk. Approximately one truckload of illegally placed goods was confiscated.
* Zone No. 10: Encroachment actions were taken from the zone office to Ginger Mall Chowk and the Jaripatka Road area, removing illegally placed stalls and shops from the road and footpaths on both sides.
*Dharampeth Zone No. 02: Encroachment removal was conducted from the zone office to Variety Chowk and Loha Pul Chowk. Approximately one truckload of other confiscated goods was seized.
*Laxminagar Zone No. 01: Encroachment actions were taken from the zone office to Lokmat Chowk, Neuron Hospital area, Dhantoli Garden, Mehadia Chowk, Panchsheel Chowk, and back to Lokmat Chowk. Approximately one truckload of illegally placed goods was confiscated.
* Zone No. 10: Encroachment removal was conducted from the zone office to the Haldiram area in Sadar, Smruti Talkies area, Liberty Chowk, LIC Chowk, Railway Station area, Kasturchand Park Chowk, and back to LIC Chowk, VCA Ground, and Mount Road. Approximately five truckloads of illegally placed goods were confiscated.
The drive was carried out under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner Harish Raut and Enforcement Department Superintendent Sanjay Kamble.
