Nagpur: An IndiGo Airlines flight from Nagpur to Indore was cancelled after a rat was found onboard. The rodent was spotted by the crew, after which the flight stopped to carry out fumigation of the plane. This led to a delay and eventually cancellation, said a report in a local newspaper.
The airline flies an ATR aircraft from Nagpur to Indore in the morning and evening. Spotting a rodent in an aircraft poses a major threat as the animal can bite off the cables and other sensitive material, leading to a flight hazard, said the report.
Fumigation was done to kill the rat. More than mere hygiene, it is also a safety issue.
Meanwhile, a public relations professional assigned by IndiGo said the only information available was that the morning flight was delayed, later adding that it was cancelled due to operational reasons.
No formal complaint has been registered over the presence of the rat in the flight, said the report and added that the airline swung into action and did fumigation in line with the protocol.
