Nagpur – The Bombay High Court’s Nagpur Bench has reserved its decision on whether the case against Ritu Malu, who is accused of running over two people while driving under the influence, will be transferred to the Crime Investigation Department (CID).
A petition requesting the transfer of the case was filed, arguing that the local police mishandled the investigation. The case centers on an incident that occurred on the night of February 24, where Malu allegedly struck Mohammad Atif and his friend Mohammad Hussain near Ramjhule. The petition claims that instead of arresting Malu and her companion Madhuri Shishir Sardha, the police allowed them to flee and even coordinated with Malu’s husband to manage the situation.
The petition also alleges that evidence was tampered with, including a six-hour delay in collecting blood samples to test for alcohol and delays in filing the FIR. Complaints to the police commissioner were reportedly ignored. The petitioner, Shahrukh Zia Mohammad, Atif’s brother, argues that a transparent investigation is impossible with the local police and requests that the CID take over.
Advocate Amol Hunge represented the petitioner, while Chief Government Pleader Deven Chauhan defended the local police. Chauhan argued that the police conducted a thorough investigation and that the allegations against them are unfounded. The court will announce its decision on the transfer of the case in one week.
