Heavy Rainfall Alert Issued for MP, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Maharashtra

Nagpur/Mumbai: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall alert for the states of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. The weather in these regions is expected to remain unfavorable over the next few days. Madhya Pradesh has been placed under a red alert today due to the likelihood of extremely heavy rainfall. Additionally, coastal areas of Gujarat and northern Maharashtra may experience adverse weather conditions until August 30.

According to the IMD, a low-pressure area has intensified into a deep depression over northwestern Madhya Pradesh and adjoining eastern Rajasthan, leading to the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next two to three days in these states, as well as parts of Gujarat and Goa. As of 11:30 PM on August 25, the deep depression was centered about 70 kilometers south-southeast of Chittorgarh, Rajasthan. This system is expected to affect the weather in Rajasthan and Gujarat, reaching Saurashtra, Kutch, and parts of Pakistan by August 29.

IMD Issues Red Alert

The IMD has also identified another low-pressure area over Bangladesh and adjacent areas of the Gangetic West Bengal region. This system is likely to intensify and move towards Gangetic West Bengal, northern Odisha, and Jharkhand in the next two days. A red alert has been issued for August 26, indicating the likelihood of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in western Madhya Pradesh. Similar weather conditions are expected in eastern and southern Rajasthan, Gujarat, Saurashtra, and Kutch between August 26 and 29. Additionally, heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is anticipated in Konkan, Goa, central Maharashtra, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, and Jharkhand over the next two days.

Adverse Weather Expected Until August 30

The IMD has warned that winds in Madhya Pradesh could reach speeds of up to 50 kilometers per hour on August 26, while southern Rajasthan could experience winds of up to 60 kilometers per hour on August 26-27. In Gujarat, parts of Pakistan, northern Maharashtra, and the northeastern Arabian Sea, winds are expected to reach speeds of 55 kilometers per hour on August 26, increasing to 60 kilometers per hour on August 27-28. The weather in coastal areas of Gujarat, Pakistan, and northern Maharashtra is expected to remain unfavorable until August 30. The Bay of Bengal’s northern region may also experience rough sea conditions on August 26.
