Drunken chaos on the streets

Ramesh Mantri, a senior BJP leader, said that after leaving the pub, the intoxicated young men and women create chaos on the streets. The pub has caused immense distress to the residents in the area. We have submitted a written complaint to the Deputy Chief Minister and also lodged a complaint with the Commissioner of Police. Despite this, the residents have not yet received any relief. The police must take timely action, he demanded.

According to some residents, the luxurious pub, located in a multi-story building on the road leading to Ramnagar, reportedly operates under the patronage of a powerful political leader. Due to this political backing, the pub’s owner is not afraid of police action. It is alleged that drugs, including marijuana and other narcotics, are openly sold in the pub. This availability of drugs has attracted a crowd of young people from affluent backgrounds and college students, they claimed.

The pub operates from midnight until early morning, with groups of young men and women gathering at all hours. They park their cars in front of the residents’ homes and then proceed to the pub. Under the influence of drugs, they urinate in front of the houses and often disturb the residents by playing loud music from the car speakers, disrupting their sleep. If anyone confronts them, they resort to physical violence and use abusive language.

Some of these young people engage in obscene behaviour right on the street, and when disputes arise among themselves, they resort to loud shouting and abusive language. The once-quiet Dharampeth area has now been turned into a commercial zone due to this pub, and the residents are demanding that its license be revoked to provide relief to the neighbourhood.

Who gave the No Objection Certificate to the pub?

In residential areas, obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the local residents is mandatory for starting a pub. However, not a single resident was asked to sign an NOC for this pub before its inauguration. This has raised questions about whether the pub is operating illegally.
