NMC launches ‘Udaan Khel Protsahan Yojana’ to encourage sportspersons

Players to get up to Rs 2 lakh cash incentive for winning medals at national and international levels

Nagpur: Aimed at encouraging talented sportspersons of Nagpur, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has started a special scheme ‘Udaan Khel Protsahan Yojana’ (UKPY) for athletes who have won medals at national and international levels. Through the UKPY scheme, players will get financial assistance ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 2 lakh for winning medals at national and international levels.

The financial assistance will be given to a player only once. Accordingly, sportspersons who have won medals at Olympic Games, Commonwealth Youth Games, School Asian/World Games, World Championships, Asian Championships, Paralympic Games, Asian Games, Youth Olympics, Para Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, Junior World Championships, Junior Asian Championships, Asian Cup will be eligible to get the reward, informs a press release from NMC.

A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Administrator Dr Abhijeet Chaudhari. It has been decided to provide financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh to medal winners in international sports events like Olympics, Commonwealth Games, World Cup, Asian Games/Asian Championship held every two years. Similarly, Rs 1 lakh will be given to sportspersons participating in Olympics, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games.

Those winning medals at nationals will be entitled to get Rs 21,000. Apart from this, financial assistance of Rs 50,000 will be given to the medal winners of senior and junior national championships as well as in the sports recognised by the Department of Sports and Youth Welfare. “Sportspersons will have to provide last three years (2021-22 , 2022-23 , 2023- 24) performance sheet which will be evaluated by the committee,” stated Dr Piyush Ambulkar, Sports Officer of NMC adding, “It will be mandatory to win a medal at least once to get the financial assistance.”

For the implementation of UKPY, Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr Abhijeet Chaudhari had formed a committee under the chairmanship of Additional Commissioner. In the committee, one from the Social Development Department, Sports Department, Women and Child Welfare Department will be appointed as Deputy Commissioner. Chhatrapati award winning athletes, Olympians, or International athletes will be appointed as members of the committee. NMC Sports Officer will be the member secretary of the committee.
